I also felt the ending was a little off-tone from the rest of the book. I mean, I liked knowing what was going on all along (as the ending described it) but I think that should have been a different book, or a different type of book.

I just picked up Reilly’s The Temple, so thanks for the recommendations everyone!

I was (Am?) gonna tweet this, but… really, you’ve been missing out if this is your first for a while.
I shall personally start to get you back into the ranks of the literature aficionados by suggesting a few good books tailored to your reaction to The Terror (And man, what a title ^_^).
For your first assignment, read any and all books penned by a certain Aussie author named Matthew Reilly.
Fast as an orbiting space shuttle, hotter than most of Australia, and with more gorey, imaginative deaths than you can shake a stick at, every single one of his novels is like watching Die Hard for the first time. Except better.
Okay, I may be starting to sound like a rabid fan, so I’ll just go ahead and state the facts:
1. NOBODY is safe in a Matthew Reilly book – not even the protagonists.
2. While not explicitly “horror”, many of his books contain horror themes (as do many other thrillers). Take his first, self published novel, “Contest”, for example – it contains ALIENS. And not in the b-movie sci-fi way, too. Within the first half of the first chapter, a man gets punched through a bookshelf and EATEN BY A GIANT ALIEN BEAST. Okay, maybe the word “ALIEN” put you off – don’t be like that. Please.
3. There’s no way of telling when someone in the novels will betray another.
4. Did I mention how damn fast it is? one of the books is written almost in REAL-TIME. (Depending on how fast you can read, of course.)
Please, don’t take my word for it – go out to a library, grab a copy of any of his books (Not hover car racer, unless you like what seems to be a cross between Disney and Die Hard) and read the horse dung out of it.
