The best 2012 game I’ve ever played. No matter how great dishonored and any other contender, Far Cry 3 is the only game give me a very chill feelings like when I was playing Prince Of Persia for the first time in my Junior High School PC (I know it seems disconnected, but I’m sure I remember how it feels back then).

The thing that gets to me is the multiplayer. I can sometimes find CO OP to be a tad more fun than versus.

Some of the game’s pre-made maps are filled with options. A lot of players crouch in their stealthy positions and move around corners to pick off rushers. They end up staying there and waiting for that person to come back for revenge bringing along his allies.. Sometimes the enemy i’m shooting, can take an entire clip of my ammo, before another comes up and kills me while reloading. You run out of ammo fairly quick while online, and this leads you to pick up a fallen player’s gun.

The custom maps that are made by the community of Far Cry 3 is what’s best in my opinion. Most aren’t set up as an island but more of a complex building or city. These maps allow you to spot players easily, which then turns to an “who has better aim” situation.

Another time I was slowly walking down a cliff only to hear a giant crash off to one side. I looked over and it was a Jeep that had tried following me off the cliff(even though it hadn’t spotted me), killing both occupants.
Sometimes the .50cal sniper rifle you get will not kill a bear in one hit. Two allies found that out the hard way when I tried to save them.

I’ll get to that in detail tonight, but essentially: there’s no quicksave. There’s no multiple slots to save games in separately: every time you save, you’re saving over your last save, which is annoying. Loading up your save doesn’t start you off where you saved it, but instead starts you at the nearest safehouse, which can be confusing. If you’re doing a main objective, you can’t manually save AT ALL, it only uses checkpoint saving, which is spotty.

And the game’s menus are garbage, which doesn’t sound like a big deal, but is, since you have to use the menu constantly for saving and crafting and stuff. The on-screen notifications are constant and annoying: your main objective is constantly being flashed on the screen in a giant box, even if you’re doing some exploring and even if you’re currently doing your main objective. Combined, they’re major irritations, though the longer you play, they either become less of a factor or you just get used to them.

I want to buy the delicious game but you keep talking about it’s shortcomings and I don’t want to spend £30 if it’s a terrible dealbreaker. Is the game fun regardless of what you might soon be mentioning?

I would happily live in the game full time if the camps repopulated. I think my favourite encounter came from an alarm that rang out far too long. It was only late game that I discovered alarms can attract helicopters, and a well timed grenade can fill the role of a missing rocket launcher.

The smoke columns really do make up for the map downgrade. I found myself banning the map screen and using the smoke or radio towers as my waypoint, even when sidetracked I knew the view from a hill could reset my path. I also banned syringes, as they require more game pausing, but mostly because the amazing bone breaking animations only show when your out of health sticks. And I’m still not tired of the returning bullet bite from far cry 2.
